Stephen Curry is looking to make his return with the Golden State Warriors in Miami. His availability for Tuesday’s game against the Miami Heat is still in question. Curry’s status is up in the air and depends on how his pelvic bruise responds to continued treatment. That risk was evident after he took a tough spill late in the second half of Thursday’s win over the Toronto Raptors. That’s when he was hurt, actually. With the Warriors on the cusp of locking down their playoff seeding, having Curry out there when it matters the most should be a top priority.
The Warriors took a tough loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night, losing 124-115 in a game that Curry was not present for. As Draymond Green put it, “that’s a terrible loss, we suck, we’re all upset. With just 11 regular-season games remaining, the Warriors want no part of the play-in round of the NBA playoffs. That’s tough, considering they have six games left on their current swing, next up against the heat on Tuesday.
Compounding Tuesday’s must-watch factor significantly will be Jimmy Butler returning to Miami to play against his former teammates. His exit from the Heat was overshadowed by a messy split with Heat president Pat Riley. With Butler’s return under such intense scrutiny, there should be even more excitement when the two teams meet again on March 2nd.
To put it mildly, the Warriors’ schedule doesn’t get any easier. Following the game Tuesday night, they will head to New Orleans for a game there on Friday. Sunday will find them in San Antonio, then a game in Memphis on April Fool’s Day. The Warriors will wrap up their trip against the Lakers on April 3.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had hoped that Curry would return to the team sometime during this six-game stretch. The Warriors will make another assessment on Curry Monday, hoping to figure out if he can play in the most important games remaining on their schedule.
