Everton Women Dominate Crystal Palace Women with a 3-0 Triumph

Everton Women continued their good form with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Crystal Palace Women. That fiery Women’s Super League clash at Walton Hall Park. The win, which came on home turf at the American Express Community Stadium, moved Brian Sorensen’s side up to seventh in the table, above Tottenham Hotspur. With that, the match drew to a close, marking a 12th loss of the Women’s season. As a result, they continue to languish at the foot of the WSL table.

The game kicked off with Crystal Palace Women attempting to build on their recent momentum, having defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in Leif Smerud's second match in charge. For all their hard work in trying to annoy Everton Women, it was Justine Vanhaevermaet who finally opened the scoring. She found the back of the net before halftime, rising above the defense to head in a corner delivered by Sara Holmgaard.

Despite the wind and rain, Everton Women kept their foot on the gas after halftime. Sara Holmgaard quickly made it 2–0 with a spectacular effort. Second, she exhibited her versatility by floating into the box to meet Kelly Gago’s ball from the right side. This goal solidified Everton's control over the match and added to Crystal Palace Women's woes.

With the clock ticking down, Kelly Gago went on to lead the charge and clinched Everton Women’s win. She netted a super third goal deep into stoppage time. Her contribution made sure that there was no question about the result in this comprehensive victory, as Everton showed their dominance in this matchup.

The victory at Walton Hall Park moved Everton Women to fourth position in the WSL, 8 points behind leaders Chelsea. With only five games left in the 2023 season, their potential is shining brighter than ever. For Crystal Palace Women, it was a double blow – a vital loss on their journey to finding form with new head coach Smerud at the helm.
