Trent Brown, one of the last of his generation’s final NFL journeymen, signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans. This deal has the potential to net him as much as $3 million. This free-agent signing was facilitated by Brown's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, marking another chapter in Brown's decade-long professional football career. The Texans are seemingly close to completely repair their shoddy pass protection. They’re replacing Brown with a guy who might be equally experienced, more versatile and productive – Bogaerts.
At 31, Brown is certainly not lacking for knowledge of the demands of the NFL. He has been a hard-nosed consistent player on offense his whole career. He has appeared in 103 games with 60 starts at both left and right tackle. Bottom line — he’s played a full regular season just once over the last half-decade. Time and again, he demonstrates his adaptability and skill at playing a variety of roles. Specifically, Brown was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2019 as a member of the Oakland Raiders.
Brown’s on-field accomplishments include three NFL seasons with the New England Patriots. He suits up most every Sunday with the Cincinnati Bengals. While playing for the Bengals, Brown opened the season as their starting right tackle for each of the first three weeks. Unfortunately, those dreams ended abruptly, as he left the field soon after, having injured his right knee. He was lost for the season after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon in the Bengals’ Week 3 loss at the Washington Commanders. Despite this sad news, Brown is still one of the league’s best dangerous game changers when healthy.
In Cincinnati, Brown proved to be a valuable addition, offering depth behind rookie Amarius Mims. Mims, the 18th overall pick last April, was supposed to provide the Jets with a downfield threat. As an experienced veteran on a one-year deal, Brown's leadership and skill were invaluable assets to the Bengals' offensive line. His impact comes from more than just on-field production. His ability to support and mentor younger players like Mims makes him an important asset.
