Scottie Scheffler is poised for a comeback as he prepares for the Masters, despite recent setbacks in his game. The professional golfer has expressed concerns about his ballstriking, which he admits hasn't been as sharp as in previous years. This has affected his performance in recent tournaments, where he has struggled to make significant gains on the leaderboards.
Scheffler's recent performances highlight these struggles. He tied for third place at the Genesis Invitational with a score of 9 under par, finishing three strokes behind winner Ludvig Åberg. At the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he tied for 11th at 4 under par, and at the Players Championship, he finished tied for 20th at the same score. The latter event saw him out of contention throughout the competition.
His challenges are not limited to ballstriking alone. Scheffler ranks 91st in strokes gained: putting, with a score of just .029, reflecting his recent difficulties on the greens. Scheffler himself acknowledges, "I think anytime you don't play up to your expectations, it's frustrating."
Compounding these challenges was an unexpected hand injury sustained while making homemade ravioli on Christmas Day. This incident cost Scheffler valuable time, forcing him to miss the first month of the season. The golfer admits that the injury set him back, saying, "I think it would be silly to say that it didn't set me back a little bit, because I had to take a good amount of time off."
Despite these setbacks, Scheffler is optimistic about his progress. He reports that he no longer experiences pain in his hand, although regaining full range of motion has taken time. His focus is now on refining his swing and improving his overall game performance.
"Each day, my hand continues to improve, my body continues to get back to where it needs to be," Scheffler shared, expressing his confidence in his recovery.
Looking ahead to the Masters, Scheffler remains positive about his potential for improvement. He believes that his swing is nearing a return to form and is enthusiastic about the direction his game is taking.
"And you know, I think my swing is coming around as well. So I'm definitely excited about the improvements that I'm making," Scheffler stated.
