Cooper Kupp Joins Seahawks in Offseason Roster Shuffle

Cooper Kupp is embarking on a new chapter with the Seattle Seahawks. The wide receiver, who grew up in Yakima, about 140 miles southeast of Seattle, attended a Seahawks game as a child and fondly remembers missing class the following day. Now, he finds himself as part of the Seahawks' significant offseason roster shuffle, having agreed to a three-year deal with the team after being released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month.

Kupp's release from the Rams saw the Seahawks move swiftly to express their interest. By Friday, an agreement was reached, allowing Kupp to make Seattle his new home. This move will have Kupp facing his former team twice a year, a circumstance he assures was not a factor in his decision to join the Seahawks.

"That didn't play into the decision to come here, but it's a nice little thing on the side to be able to go against those guys." – Cooper Kupp

Wearing a Pearl Jam T-shirt adorned with cartoon depictions of frontman Eddie Vedder and other members of the iconic Seattle grunge band, Kupp joked about sending the shirt to Vedder himself. The T-shirt was a nod to his new team’s city and its rich musical history. Despite this light-hearted moment, Kupp acknowledged that his transition from the Rams involved processing strong emotions.

"Without a doubt, it has been difficult. We're humans. We're real people." – Cooper Kupp

During his tenure with the Rams, Kupp wore No. 10, a number he also donned at Eastern Washington. Known for his impressive performance on the field, Kupp achieved the NFL's receiving triple crown in 2021, leading the league with 145 catches, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. His exceptional season earned him the MVP title of Super Bowl LVI.

This transition marks a significant change for Kupp, who has been a key figure in the Rams' lineup. However, he remains philosophical about the reasons behind his release.

"I'm sure they have their reasons for why they wanted to do things, whatever it is," – Cooper Kupp

Despite leaving behind a successful stint with the Rams, Kupp appears excited about his new adventure with the Seahawks. His signing is expected to bolster Seattle's offense as they navigate through their roster changes this offseason.
