Orlando Magic Halt Cavaliers’ Record-Breaking Winning Streak

The Orlando Magic put an end to the Cleveland Cavaliers' impressive 16-game winning streak with a 108-103 victory on Sunday. This marked a significant upset, as the Cavaliers had not lost since February 4. The Eastern Conference leaders struggled in the final moments of the game, missing crucial shots that could have extended their streak.

Sunday's loss was particularly notable for Hunter, who experienced his first defeat with the Cavaliers since being traded from the Hawks at last month's trade deadline. Despite his presence, Cleveland could not capitalize on their earlier momentum, having won all 13 games he appeared in prior to this match. The absence of All-Star forward Evan Mobley, who is recovering from a bruised foot, further compounded their difficulties.

The Cavaliers entered the fourth quarter with a slim one-point lead but were unable to maintain their advantage. Previously, they had won 48 consecutive games when leading at the start of the final quarter. Key contributions came from Jarrett Allen, who added 20 points and 12 rebounds. However, the Cavaliers fell short of matching Phoenix's feat from 2021 of winning 17 straight games.

Orlando's defense played a pivotal role in their victory, effectively containing Cleveland's offensive efforts. Wendell Carter Jr. contributed significantly with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Franz Wagner scored 22 points for the Magic. Paolo Banchero also made an impact despite shooting just 6-of-22, adding 11 rebounds and seven assists alongside his 24 points.

Cleveland's All-Star Donovan Mitchell faced challenges throughout the game, missing three crucial shots in the final minute. Max Strus also missed a potential tying three-pointer during a critical possession. The Cavaliers' offensive struggles were highlighted by Orlando's aggressive defense, particularly in containing Mitchell.
