The Buffalo Bills have secured the future of their defensive line by signing Greg Rousseau to a four-year contract extension. This agreement, which includes $54 million guaranteed, ensures that Rousseau remains a key figure in the Bills' defense. The extension, worth a total of $80 million, comes as the team works to manage its salary cap before the league year begins on Wednesday.
Rousseau, who has played for the Bills since being drafted in the first round in 2021, expressed his commitment to the team. At 25 years old, he emphasized his loyalty to the franchise.
"My heart's been here… since 2021 and I didn't really want to go anywhere else," said Greg Rousseau.
Rousseau's performance on the field has been a significant asset to the Bills. Over his four seasons with the team, he has accumulated 25 sacks, defensed 15 passes, and recorded 66 quarterback hits. Last season, his 53 pressures were the fourth most in the NFL, underlining his prowess as a pass rusher. He is also one of only seven players who achieved both a 25% run stop win rate and a 15% pass rush win rate, given a minimum of 400 pass rushes.
In addition to his individual accomplishments, Rousseau values his connection with his teammates.
"So, I mean, we have a lot of great guys on our team, our defense, our D-line. We're real tight. I'm just excited to get back to dudes like Ed [Oliver], DaQuan Jones, AJ [Epenesa]. I mean, it's a blessing to be around guys like that. It's not like that everywhere. So, I was just ready to get back," he stated.
Having played regular season games for the Bills since 2017, Rousseau is now one of the team's longest-tenured players. His decision to extend his stay aligns with the team's strategy of retaining homegrown talent. He joins fellow draft picks Khalil Shakir and Terrel Bernard in agreeing to extensions that keep them with Buffalo through 2029.
