James Harden delivered a stellar performance, scoring 50 points to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a thrilling 123-115 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Harden's explosive night marked the eighth 50-point game in franchise history and came on the second night of back-to-back games without key players Kawhi Leonard and Norman Powell.
Harden played an impressive 38 minutes, showcasing his endurance and skill. He quickly set the pace by scoring 23 points in the first quarter. Despite the Clippers losing a 23-point lead against Phoenix, Harden's efforts ensured they remained in control against Detroit.
Harden's efficiency on the court was evident as he shot 14-of-24 from the field, made six 3-pointers, and went 16-for-20 at the free throw line. His remarkable performance came on a night with zero days of rest, making him the second-oldest player in NBA history to score 50 points under such conditions.
"I can do it. It's not like it's my first time," said Harden, emphasizing his ability to perform under pressure.
Coach Ty Lue praised Harden's resilience and contribution to the team's success.
"To see him come out and score 50 on a back-to-back, at the age of 35, just says a lot about him. And competing every night and playing 38 minutes again on the back-to-back. But we needed every bit of it," remarked Lue.
This performance places Harden alongside some of the NBA's greatest scorers. Wilt Chamberlain holds the record with 118 games scoring 50 or more points, followed by Michael Jordan with 31 games and Kobe Bryant with 25 games.
Harden's outstanding display also coincided with a visit from former President Barack Obama, who has a good relationship with the player.
"So it was pretty cool to see him at the game. Probably the reason why I played so well," Harden mentioned, attributing part of his success to Obama's presence.
