Mourinho’s Scottish Ambitions: Open to Managing Celtic or Rangers

Jose Mourinho, a highly celebrated football manager, has expressed openness to managing either Celtic or Rangers in the future. Known for his tactical acumen and a track record of winning titles, Mourinho recognizes the Scottish Premiership as a league fueled by passion. He believes that facing Rangers would become more challenging if Barry Ferguson were at the helm, citing Ferguson's emotional connection to the club as a significant factor.

Mourinho, who holds his coaching badges from Largs in north Ayrshire, is no stranger to the world of top-tier football management. His illustrious career includes stints at some of the world's most prestigious clubs, and he has secured approximately 26 titles across Portugal, England, and Italy. Despite his successes, he has faced criticism for his defensive style, most notably from current Rangers coach Philippe Clement.

"It's going to be much more difficult with him (Ferguson) as a coach than with the previous coach. Because the previous coach was more worried about philosophy than on the pitch. It's on the pitch that you win matches, it's not with philosophy. For sure, Ferguson will be much more pragmatic, much more objective, and it will be hard for us. But it's going to be hard for them." – Jose Mourinho

Mourinho acknowledges Celtic's current manager, Brendan Rodgers, as a fantastic coach and holds respect for both clubs in Scotland’s top league. His history and success make him a top-class manager, as noted by Barry Ferguson, who expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of a managerial match-up against Mourinho.

"That's up to other people to decide what they think of Mourinho but he's a top-class manager and he's won so many titles and he's managed at so many top teams. He's won, I think, 26 titles, round about that. Titles in Portugal, England, Italy. So in my opinion, a top-class manager and I'm really looking forward to coming up against him." – Barry Ferguson

Although Mourinho is not actively seeking a new role, his admiration for the Scottish league's fervor remains evident. He values the emotional ties between clubs and their coaches, particularly highlighting the connection Ferguson shares with Rangers.

"I know his history as a football player for Scotland, for Rangers. I don't know much about his career as a coach. But I respect a lot the emotional connection between him as a coach and his club now. That is a very important thing in a football club, the connection between the fans and the coach." – Jose Mourinho
