The Las Vegas Raiders are actively seeking a new quarterback following a disappointing 4-13 season in 2014. As the team looks to revamp their roster, they have shown interest in several veteran quarterbacks, including Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson. However, the spotlight has shifted to Aaron Rodgers, who is set to become a free agent after the New York Jets announced they would be moving on from him.
Rodgers' recent performance with the Jets did not meet expectations. Last season, he ranked 25th in QBR, 30th in completion percentage, and 28th in yards per attempt. Despite these statistics, Rodgers managed to throw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns. The Jets finished the season with a 5-12 record, leading to their decision to part ways with the veteran quarterback after two seasons.
The Raiders are exploring all options to find a capable signal-caller under the leadership of first-year general manager John Spytek. The team previously expressed interest in Matthew Stafford before he committed to a restructured deal with the Los Angeles Rams. Additionally, Maxx Crosby, defensive end for the Raiders, expressed his hopes for Rodgers to play in Las Vegas by 2025.
"I think with all the doubt and negativity around Rodgers, he's going to have a big year, and I hope it's in our town," said Maxx Crosby.
The Raiders' current quarterback situation has been unstable, with Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell, and Desmond Ridder (who started one game) all seeing action this past season. With Rodgers now available, the Raiders may consider him a viable option despite his recent struggles and a torn Achilles that affected his first season with the Jets.
Rodgers, now 41 years old, faces skepticism regarding his ability to return to peak form. Nonetheless, his experience and past successes continue to draw interest from teams like the New York Giants, who have already shown interest. As the free agency period approaches, it remains uncertain where Rodgers will land.
