Steve Kerr Calls for Stricter Traveling Calls in NBA for Game Integrity

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has called on NBA officials to enforce traveling violations more consistently, highlighting the fundamental role of footwork in basketball. Kerr's comments come in the wake of his team's recent performances. On Saturday night, the Warriors faced a defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers, and on Monday, they triumphed over the Charlotte Hornets with a score of 119-101.

Kerr has long been vocal about the need for stricter enforcement of traveling rules. He observed four instances of traveling by his own team in the loss to the 76ers and expressed frustration over missed calls during their victory against the Hornets. Kerr, a former NBA guard, criticized officials for inconsistent enforcement, noting that he spots five or six uncalled traveling violations in each game.

"The entire game is based on footwork, we need enforce traveling violations and we are not doing it and I don't understand why."

During the third quarter of the game against the Hornets, Kerr received a technical foul after becoming irate when an obvious travel went unnoticed. This incident was compounded by the crowd's vocal demand for a traveling call, which further highlighted the contentious atmosphere surrounding the game.

Kerr acknowledged the challenges faced by officials who must monitor numerous aspects of the game simultaneously. Despite their efforts, he stressed the importance of addressing overlooked travels to maintain the integrity of basketball.

"They do a great job and work their tails off and communicate well, but I see five or six travels a game that aren't called."

The Warriors' coach remains perplexed as to why league officials are not being trained to prioritize these calls. In his view, consistent enforcement would enhance the overall quality of the game.

"I don't understand why we are not teaching our officials to call travel in this league."
