Jimmy Butler, a prominent figure in the NBA, is embroiled in a legal dispute over allegations of unpaid rent totaling $260,000. The lawsuit has been filed in the 11th Circuit Court in Florida, where the plaintiff is demanding payment of $257,282. In addition to this amount, the plaintiff seeks to retain Butler's $130,000 security deposit.
The legal proceedings stem from claims that Butler failed to pay two months of rent for a luxury home in Miami Beach, Florida. The property, valued at approximately $10 million according to Realtor.com, was leased by Butler and boasts five bedrooms and six bathrooms within its expansive 5,398 square feet. Constructed in 2016, the home is now at the center of this dispute.
Further compounding the lawsuit are allegations that Butler left behind damages exceeding $127,000. These damages reportedly include extensive mold growth necessitating the replacement of ceilings and floors. The lawsuit claims that Butler neglected to maintain both the swimming pool and air conditioning system, which contributed to the mold problem.
Complicating matters, it is alleged that Butler changed the locks on the property and refused to provide a key to the property owner. As a result, maintenance workers were unable to access the home due to the locked doors, further exacerbating the issues with maintenance and upkeep.
