Sanders attributes much of his confidence to his father, Deion Sanders, a celebrated former NFL player and current head coach at Colorado. This familial support has been instrumental in shaping his self-assured approach. As he expressed, "If that's not what you're trying to do, don't pick me. If you ain't trying to change the franchise or the culture, don't pick me."
Attending the combine, Sanders was accompanied by a personal videographer who documented his every move. He plans to utilize these recordings in the future while reflecting on the advice he's received throughout his career. Notably, Tom Brady, an all-time great and now a close mentor to Sanders, has provided invaluable guidance. Their relationship spans a couple of years, having begun when Brady invited Sanders to train with him in Tampa, Florida.
Sanders' college career speaks volumes about his potential. He led Colorado from a dismal 1-11 record to an impressive 9-4 in the 2024 season. This turnaround has fueled his belief that he can succeed at the NFL level. While he acknowledges that Miami's Cam Ward might be selected before him in the draft, Sanders remains optimistic about his prospects, particularly with plans to join the Las Vegas Raiders, where Brady serves as part-owner.
During his time at the combine, Sanders showcased his personality, saying, "It was easy meeting with people because I'm going to just be myself. It's like you either like it or you don't." He remains undeterred by skepticism regarding his ranking among potential draftees. As he noted, "Because I did it year after year after year, and you see the progression. So it's, like, obvious it's got to be some type of external hate that you have for the family, for the last name, for anything."
Despite his confidence, Sanders will not participate in Saturday's on-field quarterback workouts at the combine. Instead, he continues to focus on building his skills and seeking feedback from mentors like Brady. He describes their relationship as a valuable resource: "He's an all-time great. Being able to have that resource, being able to have that person I'm able to talk to and call whenever I'm having questions about the game… is truly amazing."
