In a thrilling display of grit and determination, the Minnesota Timberwolves secured a dramatic 131-128 overtime victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder. This remarkable win, achieved after trailing by 16 points with mere minutes remaining in regulation, marks only the second time since the play-by-play era began in 1997-98 that a team has overturned such a deficit. The game, held in Oklahoma City, saw the Thunder initially dominate, leading by as much as 82-57 in the third quarter and 102-80 as they entered the final quarter.
The Timberwolves' resurgence was nothing short of spectacular. They outscored the Thunder 41-19 in the fourth quarter, displaying an impressive offensive and defensive effort. Terrence Shannon Jr. contributed significantly to this comeback, scoring 11 of his 17 points during this crucial period. Anthony Edwards also made a substantial impact, recording 17 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.
Despite the absence of their center, Rudy Gobert, who was sidelined due to lower back spasms, the Timberwolves managed to rally. Conversely, the Thunder played without forward Chet Holmgren, who rested because of a pelvic fracture. In his absence, Jalen Williams stepped up with 27 points and Aaron Wiggins added 19 to the Thunder's tally.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a standout performer for the Thunder, amassing 39 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. However, it was Edwards' defensive prowess that proved decisive; he blocked Gilgeous-Alexander's go-ahead shot attempt with just 13.2 seconds left in overtime, sealing the Timberwolves' victory.
Despite this loss, the Thunder continue to lead the Western Conference with an impressive 46-11 record. During the game, center Isaiah Hartenstein left the court in the second quarter due to a facial contusion, adding to the Thunder's challenges.
