Tony Finau has signed a one-match contract to play with Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) against the formidable New York Golf Club, stepping in for unavailable stars Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood. The match will take place on Monday in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where Finau will team up with Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala for this highly anticipated event. Currently ranked No. 26 in the world, Finau brings his impressive record of six career wins on the PGA Tour, including his latest triumph at the 2023 Mexico Open, to the TGL stage.
Neal Hubman, a representative of LAGC, expressed enthusiasm about Finau joining the team, highlighting his popularity and commitment to youth golf.
"Tony is one of the most well-liked players in the game and has dedicated significant time and energy to make golf more accessible and available to youth, which aligns with LAGC's efforts. We look forward to welcoming him to the LAGC family and helping us secure a playoff berth." – Neal Hubman
Finau, 35, is eager to dive into the TGL experience and looks forward to contributing to LAGC's success. He expressed his excitement about participating in the matches and the opportunity to play alongside his new teammates.
"I've watched many of the TGL matches these past six weeks and I'm looking forward to getting a chance to be a part of it and compete. Team golf is always fun and exciting," – Tony Finau
The absence of Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood due to "pre-existing commitments" opened the door for Finau's participation. Hubman acknowledged this unique situation and welcomed the chance to have Finau compete for LAGC.
"We were aware that Justin and Tommy would take this week abroad to spend time with family, which created a unique opportunity for us to have Tony join LAGC for this match." – Neal Hubman
Finau's arrival at SoFi Center is highly anticipated, as he looks forward to experiencing the venue firsthand and practicing with his fellow team members. He described the atmosphere as electric, fueling his enthusiasm for the upcoming match.
