Wimmer, a former boss of Austria Vienna, steps into the role with a strong background in European football and a robust coaching pedigree. He has officially received his work permit, allowing him to commence his duties at Fir Park immediately. Assisting him in this new journey will be Ahmet Koc, with whom Wimmer shares a 13-year professional relationship, underscoring their well-established working dynamic.
Wimmer's appointment comes as he replaces Stuart Kettlewell, who resigned last month due to personal abuse. Motherwell currently holds the eighth position in the Scottish Premiership, yet the team has not secured a win since January 5th. The club anticipates that Wimmer's extensive experience will invigorate the squad's performance and morale.
Wimmer brings a wealth of experience from his time working in top academy setups in Germany, known for their focus on nurturing young talent. His previous roles include being an assistant at Stuttgart and Augsburg, where he honed his coaching skills. His tenure at Austria Vienna ended last year, paving the way for his new role at Motherwell.
