College Student Stuns NBA World by Winning 3-Point Contest

Jaren Barajas, an 18-year-old college student from Oakley, California, unexpectedly found himself in the spotlight at the NBA All-Star Game held at Chase Center, San Francisco. Attending the game was a dream come true for Jaren, who had hoped to be part of the event since it was announced as the 2025 host location. Despite his busy schedule as a business major at Los Medanos College, Jaren managed to secure tickets to the game thanks to his father's diligent monitoring of ticket prices.

Michael Barajas, Jaren's semi-retired father, seized the opportunity when he found tickets within their budget. The duo arrived early at the arena, eager to soak in the atmosphere. By sheer luck, Jaren was offered a chance to participate in the 3-point shooting contest, a thrilling opportunity that would lead to an unforgettable moment.

During the contest, Jaren faced NBA star Damian Lillard, who needed to make three long logo 3s to clinch victory. As the clock ticked down and Lillard missed his shot, Jaren took his chance. With a single, decisive shot reminiscent of Steph Curry's signature style, Jaren hit the basket, securing his win.

"Oh, man, that was amazing, clutch performance at the buzzer, Steph Curry-style," said former Warriors star Baron Davis, who personally congratulated Jaren.

Following this unexpected triumph, Jaren received $100,000 for his remarkable performance. The event also contributed to charitable causes with $50,000 donations each to Damian Lillard's newly established scholarship fund and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland and San Francisco.

"This is going to mean the world to me, it's going to help my family a lot and definitely my future," Jaren Barajas shared with emotion.

The young college student expressed his disbelief and gratitude for the experience.

"I got surprised with these tickets yesterday, so I didn't even know I was coming to the game, so to have this experience it's so surreal," he stated.

Jaren's victory was not only celebrated by his family but also by strangers and fans who cheered him on and requested photos. Baron Davis encapsulated the sentiment of many when he exclaimed:

"In the Bay Area. Give this man his money."
