Chloe Kelly’s Return to Arsenal: A Fresh Start After a ‘Difficult’ Man City Exit

Chloe Kelly has rejoined Arsenal on a six-month loan, reigniting her career at her former club following her departure from Manchester City. The move, finalized on WSL Deadline Day, comes after intense speculation about her future with City, where her contract is set to expire this summer. Kelly, who famously scored the decisive goal for England at Wembley to clinch the Euros title three years ago, aims to revive her form ahead of this summer's European Championships.

Kelly's return to Arsenal marks a significant step after being left out of Sarina Wiegman's latest England squad, primarily due to limited game time. Her exclusion from the national team was a blow, but Kelly had a constructive conversation with Wiegman about the decision. She expressed eagerness to regain her best form and emphasized the importance of listening to those around her as she navigates this new chapter.

"I want to be at the best for England and Arsenal so it's really important that I listen to the people around me and move forward."

The move to Arsenal also offers Kelly the chance to play under head coach Renee Slegers, with whom she shares a strong relationship. She has been enjoying her time working with Slegers and the team, an experience that is already proving beneficial. Kelly is particularly excited about performing in front of Arsenal fans again, especially at the Emirates Stadium.

"I'm really excited to play in front of our fans for the first time. It will be amazing and to do it at the Emirates against Spurs is top. Just to hear the sound of the Emirates Stadium again, it's going to be special."

Her anticipated debut against Tottenham in the north London derby has been confirmed by Slegers, providing Kelly the platform to showcase her talents once more. This opportunity comes at a crucial time as she looks to build momentum and accumulate valuable minutes on the pitch.

"In 2022, I was still not even training with the team at this time. For me, it's about getting minutes under my belt and when I do get onto the pitch, show what I'm capable of again."

Kelly's journey has not been without its challenges. Reflecting on her time at Manchester City, she acknowledged the difficulties faced by her and her family but now feels ready to embrace new opportunities.

"It was a difficult time for me and my family and now I can look at the other side of it and move forward."

While Kelly's future at Arsenal beyond the six-month loan remains uncertain, she remains focused on making the most of her time with the club. Her immediate goal is to enjoy her football again and make a significant impact in forthcoming matches.
