TGL’s Innovative Format Sparks Excitement in New Team Golf League

The new Team Golf League (TGL) is making waves with its exciting and innovative approach to the sport. Featuring a unique format that blends traditional golf with technology, TGL has teams competing in a round-robin format during the regular season. Each team fields three players who engage in matches that combine alternate shot play for the first nine holes and singles play for the last six. The league’s bold approach aims to attract golf enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The TGL matches kick off with players teeing off on real grass tee boxes before hitting into a massive 64-foot by 53-foot screen. This technology-driven experience is complemented by an adjusting green that players use for shots of 50 yards or less, adding a dynamic element to the game. For shots between 50 and 129 yards, golfers hit from a front box situated 21 yards from the screen. Meanwhile, shots exceeding 130 yards are taken from a back box located 35 yards away. This combination of virtual and real-world elements showcases the league's commitment to innovation.

As the season progresses, each team competes to secure a spot in the semifinals, reserved for the top four teams based on their standings. The league employs a points system, awarding two points for each victory and a single point for losses in overtime. The Bay Golf Club dominated New York Golf Club with a convincing 9-2 victory on January 7. Following this, Los Angeles Golf Club delivered a remarkable performance against Jupiter Links Golf Club, winning 12-1 on January 14. Atlanta Drive Golf Club claimed victory with a 4-0 win over New York Golf Club on January 21. The month concluded with Jupiter Links Golf Club narrowly defeating Boston Common Golf, 4-3, on January 27.
