Shedeur Sanders Focuses on Fit Over First Pick in NFL Draft

Shedeur Sanders
, a promising quarterback, is making waves in the lead-up to this year’s NFL draft. Training alongside quarterbacks coach Darrell Colbert in the Dallas area, Sanders is expected to be one of the early picks. Despite the Tennessee Titans holding the No. 1 pick, Sanders remains unfazed about being selected first overall. He emphasizes the importance of finding a team that offers a good scheme fit over simply being a top draft choice.

Sanders has engaged in conversations with several NFL teams, including the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants, during the East-West Shrine Bowl. His interactions reflect his belief that each discussion carries weight and significance.

"Every conversation we have is very impactful to me," Sanders stated.

While some may see being the first overall pick as an ultimate goal, Sanders holds a different view. He values team compatibility more than the prestige of being drafted first. Spending time with former NFL quarterback Michael Vick during Shrine week has influenced his perspective. Vick, who was the first Black quarterback selected first overall in 2001, serves as an inspiration for Sanders.

"These are good problems to have. You could be in a way worse situation. Being No. 1 doesn't really matter to me. It's all about fit," Sanders expressed.

Interestingly, Sanders' approach to the draft highlights his understanding of the nuances involved in transitioning to the NFL. He acknowledges that being part of a team with a high draft pick may not always equate to an ideal situation. This insight underscores his focus on long-term success rather than immediate recognition.

Sanders also maintains light-hearted interactions on and off the field. During workouts, he has been seen engaging in playful banter with Miami quarterback Cam Ward, showcasing his competitive yet amiable spirit.

"It's cool that we're close because, if we wasn't, they would try to pin us against each other," Sanders noted.

Throughout his journey, Sanders continues to prioritize aligning with a team that complements his skills and aspirations. His emphasis on fit over fame positions him as a thoughtful and strategic player in this year's draft landscape.
