Luka Doncic, who has been sidelined since Christmas Day due to a left calf strain, is eyeing a return to the basketball court. After participating in a 5-on-5 scrimmage with the Los Angeles Lakers' "stay ready" group on Wednesday, Doncic's comeback looks promising. The scrimmage marked a significant step forward, as there were "no setbacks" during his on-court session. Additionally, Doncic continued his recovery regimen by working out and lifting weights on Thursday.
Initially, sources indicated that Doncic was "trending towards" making his debut for the Lakers against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. However, those plans have since been revised. A source familiar with Doncic's intentions confirmed that he is now targeting Monday for his debut when the Lakers host the Utah Jazz. This shift in plans comes as the team considers various options to ensure Doncic is cleared for a successful return to play.
During the Lakers' first game following his acquisition, Doncic watched from the bench in a black Lakers track suit as the team secured a decisive 122-97 victory over the L.A. Clippers. His presence alone seemed to boost morale, and his impending return is expected to further enhance the team's performance. The Lakers are hopeful that an official announcement regarding Doncic's clearance to play will be made soon.
