Timberwolves forward Julius Randle will be sidelined for at least two more weeks due to a right groin strain. The injury occurred during Minnesota's game against Utah on January 30, prompting his removal in the second quarter. An MRI taken at the Mayo Clinic confirmed the diagnosis of a right adductor strain, which was further validated by Dr. Benjamin Domb of the American Hip Institute. Randle is set to be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Randle, a seasoned NBA player with 689 games under his belt, has graced the courts for the Lakers, Pelicans, Knicks, and Timberwolves over 11 seasons. His career averages stand at 19.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. This season with Minnesota, Randle is contributing significantly to his team, averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over 48 games. He ranks second in both points and rebounds for the Timberwolves this season.
The Timberwolves acquired Randle on October 2 in a multi-player, three-team trade that saw Karl-Anthony Towns move to the Knicks. The trade has had significant implications for all teams involved, with Randle quickly becoming an essential component of Minnesota's lineup.
Despite Randle's absence, the Timberwolves are striving to maintain their playoff aspirations. Minnesota currently holds seventh place in the Western Conference and trails the Clippers by just one game for the final guaranteed postseason spot. Their recent performance included a narrow victory over the Wizards, winning 105-103 on Saturday, followed by a close defeat to the Kings with a score of 116-114 on Monday.
As Randle rests and recovers, the Timberwolves will need to rely on their roster depth to navigate upcoming games. The team's ability to adapt and continue their competitive play will be crucial during Randle’s recovery period.
