Mason Crosby Hangs Up His Cleats: A Storied Career Comes to an End

Mason Crosby, a name synonymous with the Green Bay Packers, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40. Over a remarkable 16-year tenure with the Packers, Crosby not only became the franchise's all-time leading scorer but also etched his name in NFL history. He shared his retirement news on his radio show, marking the end of an illustrious career that began when he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL draft.

Crosby’s career with the Packers is highlighted by numerous achievements. He played in a franchise-record 258 games and scored an impressive 1,939 points, placing him 11th in NFL history for scoring. During his time with the Packers from 2007 to 2022, Crosby made 81.3% of his field goal attempts, successfully converting 400 out of 492 tries. His accuracy extended to extra points as well, with a success rate of 97.2%, having made 739 out of 760 attempts.

His time with the Packers was not only about consistency but also about winning. Crosby was part of the team that claimed victory at the Super Bowl, adding a championship ring to his list of accolades.

In 2023, Crosby briefly joined the New York Giants, where he went 5-of-7 on field goal attempts. Despite his continued capability on the field, he spent this season away from the game after the Packers chose not to re-sign him, opting instead to draft Anders Carlson.

Reflecting on his career and time with the Packers, Crosby expressed deep gratitude:

"I'm just so, so thankful, so grateful for the opportunity to come to Green Bay in 2007, drafted in the sixth round out of the University of Colorado, to become a Packer and to be a part of this fraternity and legacy, the history of the Green Bay Packers." – Mason Crosby

Crosby's journey began at the University of Colorado, and over nearly two decades, he has become a fixture in Green Bay's storied history. From 1997 to 2005, he scored 1,054 points, ranking second on Green Bay's career scoring list. His departure leaves a legacy that will be remembered by fans and teammates alike.
