Myles Garrett Seeks New Horizons: Requests Trade from Cleveland Browns

Myles Garrett
, the esteemed Defensive Player of the Year, has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Garrett announced his decision through a statement released on Monday, expressing his desire to explore new opportunities. Despite Garrett’s request, the Browns have maintained their stance and do not intend to trade him.

Garrett's remarkable performance on the field has been a testament to his prowess. In the 2024 season, he recorded 14 sacks, placing him second in the NFL rankings. His career achievements include six Pro Bowl selections and four All-Pro selections, underscoring his significance in the league. Moreover, Garrett's 102.5 sacks since entering the league in 2017 trail closely behind only T.J. Watt's 103.5 sacks.

The Browns originally drafted Garrett with the first overall pick in 2017. Since then, he has consistently demonstrated his talent, becoming the first player since 1982 to achieve 100 career sacks before turning 29. However, Garrett's tenure with the Browns has not been devoid of challenges. Over the years, he has endured six losing seasons and expressed disappointment with the team's performance in the 2024 season, considering it more disappointing than their infamous 0-16 season during his rookie year.

Garrett's contract, a five-year extension worth $125 million signed in 2020, still has two more years remaining with guaranteed salary. Despite discussions with Browns General Manager Andrew Berry about maximizing the team's potential, Berry remains firm in his decision not to entertain offers for Garrett.

"My anticipation, expectation is that he'll have a direct ticket from Cleveland to Canton at the end of his years and expect him to be here and retire a Brown, quite frankly." – Andrew Berry

The Browns view Garrett as an integral part of their future plans. Berry's statement reflects the team's commitment to retaining Garrett as a cornerstone of their defense. The decision to keep him aligns with their vision of seeing him conclude his career as a Brown and potentially cement his legacy in Canton.
