Manchester United faced a significant setback with a damaging defeat at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace, marking their 11th league loss this season. Jean-Philippe Mateta's brace propelled the Eagles to a notable victory, their fourth at Old Trafford in six visits. In an effort to bolster their squad, Manchester United has acquired Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu and Arsenal's untested 18-year-old defender, Ayden Heaven. As the transfer deadline looms on Monday at 11 p.m., head coach Ruben Amorim remains hopeful for additional reinforcements, particularly with Marcus Rashford set to join Aston Villa on an initial loan.
Amorim expressed the club's determination to enhance their roster amidst challenging circumstances.
"We are trying everything to improve the team without doing mistakes of the past, and trying to balance the urgency of the moment." – Ruben Amorim
Rashford's impending departure follows that of Antony, increasing the urgency for new signings. Amorim is keen to strengthen the squad before the window closes.
Meanwhile, young forward Mathys Tel has attracted interest from several clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and previously Tottenham. Tel, a 19-year-old talent from Bayern Munich, has had limited opportunities this season, playing only 344 minutes without scoring in the Bundesliga and Champions League. Despite this, he showcased his potential last season with nine goals and six assists, averaging an impressive 1.15 goal involvements per 90 minutes.
Bayern Munich has already rejected Manchester United's loan offer for Tel, preferring either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy. Max Eberl of Bayern Munich acknowledged Tel's significant market value.
"It's also about generating transfer revenue. Mathys is an incredibly sought-after player." – Max Eberl
Tel recently turned down a move to Tottenham after both clubs agreed on a £50 million deal. Christoph Freund, also from Bayern Munich, highlighted the pressure Tel has been under as speculation about his future intensifies.
"We're talking a lot with him. A lot's been going on with the young lad in the past few days. He's only 19." – Christoph Freund
The decision was made for Tel to sit out Bayern's recent fixture to relieve some of the mental strain.
"We decided together with him [on Saturday] that there's a lot on his mind, so it makes no sense for him to be involved today." – Christoph Freund
As the deadline approaches, Amorim remains optimistic yet cautious about potential deals.
"We'll see. There is one more day. Let's wait until the window closes." – Ruben Amorim
