Viktor Hovland, the world-renowned golfer, is optimistic as he prepares for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week. Despite a broken right pinkie toe late last year before the Sentry Tournament in Kapalua, Hawaii, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion remains undeterred. Hovland's recent performance has been inconsistent, yet he remains hopeful of turning his game around soon. He returns to Pebble Beach with fond memories, a course where he won the U.S. Amateur title in 2018.
Hovland's recent track record includes a third-place finish at the PGA Championship and a tie for second at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. However, in 16 starts last season, he only secured two top-10 finishes. At The Sentry, he finished tied for 36th, and he recently missed the cut at the Dubai Desert Classic. Acknowledging the need for improvement, Hovland expressed that his game this week could benefit from some adjustments.
Despite these challenges, Hovland's spirits remain high as he revisits a venue that has brought him success in the past. Reflecting on his experiences at Pebble Beach, he shared:
"One of my favorite courses in the world, places in the world. Not just the golf course but outside the golf course. It's just unique. Some good memories winning the U.S. Amateur here, low amateur at the U.S. Open. Yeah, just this is a place I look forward to coming back every year."
Hovland's positive outlook is bolstered by his achievements earlier this year, where he clinched both the Memorial and BMW championships alongside his FedEx Cup title. These victories highlight his potential to excel despite recent setbacks.
As he prepares for the upcoming tournament, Hovland remains focused on refining his skills and maintaining a learning mindset. He emphasized:
"Even if I'm not seeing results from day to day, which is extremely frustrating, I do feel like I'm learning more."
