Burnley extended their remarkable defensive run by securing a goalless draw against Championship leaders Leeds United on Saturday. The match, held at Turf Moor, witnessed Burnley's solid defense keeping a clean sheet for the seventh consecutive game. Despite missing an opportunity to climb to second place in the league standings, Burnley demonstrated their defensive prowess by denying Leeds the chance to extend their lead at the top.
Burnley has now gone over 700 minutes without conceding a goal, a feat unmatched by any other team in the Championship this season. With 20 clean sheets in 29 games, Burnley boasts the best defensive record in the league, having conceded just nine goals. Their defensive wall has remained unbreached since Watford scored against them on December 21.
While Burnley's defense has been exemplary, their offensive performance remains a concern. In this match, they failed to attempt a shot on target, marking the first time since their encounter with Millwall in November 2024 that they have not tested the opposing goalkeeper. Overall, Burnley has failed to score in 11 of their 29 games, with only Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City having a worse record in finding the back of the net this season.
Leeds United, who sit two points clear at the top of the table, could not capitalize on their position as league leaders. Despite having more possession, they were unable to convert it into a decisive goal. Burnley remains three points behind Leeds and just one point off Sheffield United in second place.
Burnley's head coach, Scott Parker, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
"The way the game panned out we're happy with a point. We nudged away and there's elements of our game we need to improve or be better in." – Scott Parker
Leeds' manager Daniel Farke also acknowledged the difficulty of facing Burnley's defense.
"It's a good result. It's a difficult away game against one of the best sides in the league." – Daniel Farke
