LPGA Cancels Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship Amid Financial Concerns

The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) has announced the cancellation of the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, originally slated for March 20-23 near Los Angeles. The decision came after the tournament's financial underwriter failed to meet its payment obligations for both the 2024 and 2025 events. This unexpected development has led the LPGA to explore alternative options with title partner Fir Hills and the tournament host, Hall of Fame golfer Seri Pak.

The Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship was a significant event on the LPGA Tour, showcasing top-tier women's golf talent. Seri Pak, a South Korean native who played on the LPGA Tour from 1996 to 2016, hosted the tournament. A celebrated figure in the sport, Pak won 25 events, including five major championships, during her illustrious career and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007. The cancellation of the event is a setback for fans and players alike, particularly as Nelly Korda was the defending champion at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The financial issues arose when the underwriter failed to fulfill "any portion of its payment obligations," prompting the LPGA to cancel the tournament. This marks a significant disruption in the LPGA Tour schedule, as the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship was an anticipated highlight for players and spectators.

Liz Moore, the interim LPGA commissioner, expressed regret over the unavoidable cancellation. She emphasized the association's commitment to reinstating the event in honor of Seri Pak's remarkable contributions to golf.

"We remain dedicated to bringing this event back to our schedule to honor the incredible legacy of Seri Pak, who has been a wonderful ambassador for the game and this event." – Liz Moore, the interim LPGA commissioner.

The LPGA will continue discussions with Fir Hills and Pak to explore feasible solutions for hosting a future tournament. The association aims to maintain its strong partnership with these stakeholders and uphold the championship's significance within the women's professional golf community.
