The TGL's inaugural season witnessed its closest match yet on Tuesday when the Atlanta Drive Golf Club clashed with the New York Golf Club. Held in a unique arena, the match kept spectators on the edge of their seats as the two teams were separated by a mere two-point margin through the first nine holes. Ultimately, Atlanta Drive showcased their prowess, pulling away in the last six holes to secure a 4-0 victory.
The match featured some of the world's top golfers, with Atlanta Drive represented by Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay. In a memorable moment, Horschel energized the crowd with his spirited walkout, performing the "Dirty Bird" dance to show his allegiance to Atlanta. Meanwhile, Lucas Glover remained inactive for this first match of the season, while New York's Xander Schauffele sat out as well.
New York Golf Club fielded Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Rickie Fowler. Despite their spirited efforts and a more competitive showing compared to their season opener against Bay Golf Club, they were unable to overcome Atlanta's late surge. The players demonstrated not only skill but also camaraderie and sportsmanship, further elevating the match's entertainment value.
A particularly gripping moment occurred when players challenged each other to hit a camera positioned over three stories high. Justin Thomas nearly accomplished this feat, adding to the match's excitement and showcasing the players' remarkable talents.
