Genesis Invitational Relocates Amidst California Wildfires

The Genesis Invitational, originally set to take place at Riviera Country Club from February 13-16, has been moved due to devastating wildfires near the Pacific Palisades, California. The PGA Tour is actively exploring alternative sites for the tournament, considering venues such as TPC Scottsdale in Arizona and Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. Other potential locations include LaQuinta Country Club in LaQuinta, California, and Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California.

Riviera Country Club has a storied history with the Genesis Invitational, having hosted the event almost annually since 1973 and a total of 60 professional men's tournaments since 1929. The tournament benefits Tiger Woods' TGR Foundation, with Woods himself hosting the event. However, the pressing threat of wildfires necessitated the decision to relocate the event.

The wildfires have had catastrophic effects, claiming at least 25 lives and destroying thousands of structures near the Riviera Country Club. This prompted the PGA Tour to prioritize the safety and well-being of all involved.

"The PGA Tour's focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles," stated the PGA Tour.

Tiger Woods emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of those impacted by the disaster:

"It's more about what we can do to help everyone who's struggling, who's lost homes and had their lives changed. It's just hard."

The PGA Tour has expressed gratitude for the efforts of first responders:

"We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires," they added.

As the PGA Tour considers alternative venues, they have assured that an announcement regarding the new location for the Genesis Invitational will be made in the coming days. The organization remains dedicated to ensuring that all participants and spectators will be safe amidst these challenging circumstances.

Tiger Woods' organization is focused on "trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe" due to the wildfires.
