The Green Bay Packers are entering Sunday's NFC wild-card playoff game with promising news, as quarterback Jordan Love and several key players returned to practice this week. Love, who suffered from numbness in his throwing hand after an awkward fall on his right elbow during the regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears, participated fully in practice sessions on Thursday and Friday. He carries no injury designation for the upcoming playoff game.
Backup quarterback Malik Willis also returns without injury designation, despite suffering a thumb injury during his relief appearance for Love against the Bears. The Packers' roster sees further potential boosts with the return of defensive tackle T.J. Slaton, defensive lineman Brenton Cox Jr., and offensive lineman Andre Dillard, all of whom have been recovering from various injuries. However, safety Zayne Anderson and receiver Christian Watson are ruled out, with Watson lost for the season due to a torn ACL.
The Packers have listed Slaton, Cox Jr., and Dillard as questionable, but their participation in recent practices suggests a chance of seeing game action. Their return could be pivotal as they missed the final three regular-season games due to their injuries. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley expressed optimism about the team's defensive prospects, especially with linebacker Quay Walker and safety Evan Williams back in practice.
"It's nice to have the leadership of Quay, and the one thing about Evan, Evan is such a smart football player, and it comes so easy to him," – Jeff Hafley.
The defense's potential resurgence is further complemented by safety Xavier McKinney's return, which allows him to focus on his primary role rather than covering multiple positions. Coach Matt LaFleur highlighted McKinney's performance in practice, noting his preparedness for the upcoming challenge.
As the Packers prepare for their crucial playoff matchup, they are counting on the return of key players to fortify both their offensive and defensive units. The inclusion of Walker and Williams is particularly anticipated to enhance their defensive capabilities against formidable opponents.
