Omar Marmoush, the rising star of German football, is on the brink of a high-profile transfer to Manchester City. With the January transfer window open and closing on February 3, City is eager to secure the talented forward immediately. Marmoush's current club, Eintracht Frankfurt, is expected to receive an opening bid as early as this weekend.
The 19-year-old striker has made significant strides this season, scoring 18 goals across all competitions. He has also netted 13 times in the Bundesliga, placing him just behind Harry Kane in the race for the league's top scorer. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed; Marmoush is currently second only to Mohamed Salah for goal involvements across the top five European leagues, showcasing his crucial role in Frankfurt's attacking lineup.
Marmoush's versatility adds to his appeal. He can effectively operate in any position across the front three, making him a valuable asset for any team. The Brazilian international also gained international recognition when he captained Brazil's U17 team at the U17 World Cup in 2023, further highlighting his potential on the global stage.
Eintracht Frankfurt has set a hefty price tag of £67 million for Marmoush, indicating their reluctance to part with their star player for anything less. Offers significantly below this figure are expected to be rejected outright. While Manchester City and Marmoush's camp consider a transfer fee in the region of £42 million to £50 million more realistic, negotiations may prove challenging.
Frankfurt's management is keen to retain Marmoush, especially as Palmeiras, his previous club, aims to keep him during their participation in the Club World Cup. As noted by football analyst Tim Vickery, "Palmeiras are in the Club World Cup and they very much want to keep hold of this centre-back, who turns 19 next week."
As the January transfer window progresses, City remains intent on bolstering their squad with Marmoush's talents. The urgency of the situation is heightened as many major European leagues, including those in France, Germany, Scotland, and Spain, will close their transfer windows on February 3 at 11 PM UK time.
