2027 Open Championship to Grace St Andrews’ Legendary Links

The prestigious Open Championship will return to the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland for its 31st edition in 2027. Renowned as the 'Home of Golf,' St Andrews has a storied history with the tournament, having first hosted it in 1873. The R&A, the tournament organizer, announced this much-anticipated return on Thursday. The event is scheduled to take place from July 17-20, bringing together the world's elite golfers once again to compete on these historic links.

The 2027 Open Championship will mark a significant milestone, commemorating 100 years since Bobby Jones claimed victory at St Andrews. In 1927, Jones secured his triumph with a commanding six-shot lead, cementing his legacy in golf history. Notably, Jones also achieved success at Royal Lytham & St Annes, further establishing his prowess on the course. The upcoming tournament will be the first held at St Andrews since Australian Cameron Smith seized his major title there in 2022.

The Old Course's selection as the venue underscores its importance and allure within the golfing community. Mark Darbon, CEO of the R&A, expressed the unique charm of hosting The Open at St Andrews.

"There is something incredibly special about The Open being played on the Old Course and so many of the great champions have walked these fairways since the first staging here in 1873," – R&A CEO Mark Darbon

In addition to its historical significance, the Open Championship at St Andrews continues to captivate golf enthusiasts worldwide. The Old Course's challenging layout and scenic beauty make it a favorite among both players and spectators. Anticipation for the 2027 event is already building as fans eagerly await the return of golf's finest to this legendary course.

The announcement also highlights the rotating venues of the Open Championship. Before returning to St Andrews in 2027, Royal Birkdale in England will host the 2026 edition of the tournament. This year, the Open will take place from July 17-20 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, maintaining tradition and excitement for golf's oldest major tournament.
