The 2025 NFL Draft presents a rare opportunity for a proactive team. Given all that, the talent pool this year is exceedingly different from what we’ve experienced in the past. Notably, the draft class appears weaker on paper compared to the robust 2024 draft class, prompting teams to reassess their strategies. As organizations prepare for the upcoming selection, they are keenly aware of the dynamics at play, particularly concerning quarterback prospects and depth at key positions.
Even though the 2025 QB class is viewed as overwhelmingly top-heavy, there is still plenty of talent at the position. Teams such as the Raiders, Jets, Saints, Steelers and Rams are all looking for signal-callers to strengthen their cores. Meanwhile the Saints are aggressively looking for help at multiple positions, offensive line, cornerback, edge rusher and wide receiver. Their strategy might be shaped by how they view the QB class II being offered in the draft.
As far as depth at wide receiver goes, the 2025 draft class looks primo. This range provides squads with a myriad of choices to enhance their offensive potential. The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the most obvious needs in football at quarterback, especially when they don’t even have a realistic stopgap to plug in for 2025. That’s potentially about to shift if they actually manage to sign free agent veteran QB Aaron Rodgers—which would completely alter their approach to building a draft class.
The New England Patriots are in a somewhat similar trump situation, with several factors in play at the quarterback position. They’ve got a few good choices to make here, not unlike Cam Robinson, Laken Tomlinson, and Ed Ingram. As they consider their options, the next draft is fast approaching. With nine total picks at their disposal, the Patriots are in excellent position for flexibility to move around in the draft.
The Denver Broncos enter the 2025 draft with seven picks at their disposal. Their late first-round selection makes them a prime candidate to trade down and acquire more assets. This additional flexibility might make it possible for them to purchase other assets even as they meet their immediate needs.
The Houston Texans are under the gun to improve their play this year. Last year they gave up an astounding 54 sacks, which tied them for the third most in the entire league. Factor in how they perform into the equation as they try to build up their offensive line via the draft.
The Cleveland Browns have that first pick of the second round at No. 34. They’re followed just behind by the New York Giants, who have the No. 35 selection. That closeness likely will create an atmosphere for bold moves that could change franchise fortunes for years to come.
With so many teams needing to assess their future and prepare draft plans, the 2025 NFL Draft should be a must-see live event. Organizations need to be nimble and deliberate as they work through this unprecedented draft class. They’re caught in this paradox of having a lot of depth in some positions but a lack of elite talent at others.
