Knicks’ Anunoby Sidelines Due to Foot Injury; Day-to-Day Status

OG Anunoby will not play in the New York Knicks' upcoming game against the Houston Rockets on Monday night due to a sprained right foot. The injury took place during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Anunoby suffered the injury while trying to catch the ball at the 3-point line, awkwardly planting his right foot. He fell to one knee, holding his lower right leg, before making his way to the locker room.

Initially, the Knicks listed Anunoby as questionable in their Sunday injury report. However, by Monday, he was downgraded to out. Head Coach Tom Thibodeau announced on Monday that Anunoby's sprain is mild, and he will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. The player will need to progress from individual contact workouts to full 5-on-5 sessions before rejoining the lineup.

Anunoby has been a crucial player for the Knicks this season, starting all 49 games and averaging 16.4 points per game. His presence on the court has significantly contributed to the team's success. Since the start of the 2023-24 season, the Knicks have achieved a 52-19 record with Anunoby in their lineup, compared to a 30-29 record without him.

During the offseason, Anunoby committed to a five-year, $212 million contract with the Knicks. X-rays on his injured foot were negative, as confirmed by Coach Thibodeau. The injury did not result from contact with another player and will be monitored daily to ascertain his readiness for future games.

The Knicks are scheduled to face the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night. However, Anunoby's participation remains uncertain as he continues his recovery process.
