Khalil Mack Signs $18 Million Extension with Chargers for 12th Season

Khalil Mack has officially signed his one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. The deal is fully guaranteed and $18 million, making his fourth year on the team. The now-former outside linebacker is a living, breathing, NFL folklore, with a storied and Hall of Fame-worthy career. He cited, among other things, that his desire to win was a key factor in his choice to re-sign.

Mack began his tenure with the Chargers without Joey Bosa alongside him. Recently, Bosa signed with the Buffalo Bills after being released by the Jaguars. Mack had a tough 2022 campaign, suffering an injury that forced him to miss the Colts’ week 6 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. Even after suffering this disappointment, he displayed tremendous fortitude and capped the 2024 campaign with six sacks. This total represented the second-lowest of his career.

In Week 9 of the short 2020 season, Mack ended up straining both groins. Unfortunately, this injury cut his play down to only 30 snaps in two games. He still towered over all other Chargers players, posting an astonishing 13% pass rush win rate. This stellar performance earned him a spot in his ninth Pro Bowl.

Despite his individual achievements, Mack’s playoff record remains a concern. He has lost all five playoff appearances throughout his career. Perhaps it’s this ongoing quest for a championship that drove him to keep playing at 34 years old.

The way I see it, though, I had just to be even-handed in my treatment.” Mack continued. He reiterated that his top priority would be winning—and not just winning enough money to care about finances and other priorities. And you know that’s what I tried to do, just focus on winning ball games.” This statement speaks both to his commitment to the city of Atlanta and the success of the team.

During the Charger’s wild-card round defeat to the Houston Texans, where they lost 32-12, Mack contributed with two sacks and five quarterback pressures. His game showed just how indispensable and impactful he is to the Eagles’ defensive front.

You can bet that Mack does not back down from his long-term vision and aspiration, which have motivated him as early as his entrance to the league. As he approaches his last year with the Chargers, his eyes reflect a non-stop pursuit of achievement.
