Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback and two-time NFL Most Valuable Player, is making strides in his recovery from a knee injury sustained during last Sunday’s 27-19 victory against the Minnesota Vikings. Jackson’s absence on Wednesday was due to soreness in his knee. He was back in action on Thursday, running with a noticeable limp and doing all the drills at an impressive level. Ravens brass and fans are intrigued to see his impact, but everyone is hopeful he will return for the Ravens’ Week 11 meeting at the Cleveland Browns.
This latest Jackson injury comes after he missed four games earlier this season with a hamstring injury. The Ravens took a major step back without him, going 1-3 and averaging only 15.8 points per game. When Jackson has been able to take the field, he’s shown what he could do. On those plays, he ranks fourth in the NFL, with a phenomenal Total Quarterback Rating (QBR) of 73.2. He’s thrown 15 TDs and just one INT so far this season.
The Ravens’ offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, expressed confidence in Jackson’s performance during Thursday’s practice, stating it was “Great.” Jackson displayed noticeably athletic agility and mobility as he glided from drill to drill. This is definitely a good sign for his readiness to face the Browns. In those five games he has both started and finished this season, the Ravens have recorded a startling 33.2 points per game. This studious statistic underscored his indispensable role in leading the team’s success.
Jackson has had an incredibly difficult year thus far. Most recently, the Vikings pounded him 11 times in their most recent contest. One of those hits resulted in a totally bogus roughing the passer call. What it does exceptionally well is convey the physical toll that quarterbacks take in the league. Despite these obstacles, both head coach John Harbaugh and Jackson himself remain optimistic about his health and readiness to lead the team.
The Ravens are looking ahead to their second game with the Browns. If Jackson comes back and is 100 percent, their Super Bowl chances will skyrocket! With the team still in the midst of a disappointing season, Jackson’s presence and deep-threat abilities should improve their offensive production.
