LeBron James Shows No Residual Effects After Intense G League Practice

LeBron James stepped back on the court today — today his second day in a row. After the draft, he joined the G League’s South Bay Lakers for practice. He is readying himself to become the first… In a few days, he’ll be the first player in NBA history to lace ‘em up for a 23rd season. The day after an especially tough workout on Wednesday, he’s still feeling good with no aftershocks from that workout still around. It’s certainly a good sign—perhaps an indication that he’s prepared to return to the Los Angeles Lakers.

On the day of practice before the game on Thursday, James was a full-participant to the small step, thanks to South Bay coach Zach Guthrie. He passed his 5-on-5 live practice with flying colors. Best of all, he experienced no pain or soreness in his lower back or right side, which had previously been an issue for him from sciatica. He last appeared in a 5-on-5 context more than half a year ago when the Cavs got booted by Indiana in the first round of the playoffs. This practice is paramount to his rehabilitation, as well.

It’s great to see James back on the practice court! He’s sitting out because he hasn’t played since last season due to sciatica in his lower back and right side that caused him to miss all of training camp, and the Lakers’ first 12 games this season. He’s pushing right up against his 41st birthday next month. This tremendous progress might lay the groundwork for his uplifting return to the Lakers lineup.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently on a five-game road trip, with plans to hold a practice in El Segundo, California, on Monday after their travels conclude. James has been making tremendous strides this weekend! If he continues this pace, he may well find himself with the big team in time for their home match against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday. After that intriguing early season matchup, the team won’t return to action until November 23.

James’ dedication to his recovery and training underscores his commitment to maintaining peak performance as he looks to extend his illustrious career. The franchise and its fans have every right to hope that he can come up massive on his return.
