Embiid Faces Day-to-Day Status While George Nears Return

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers is currently day-to-day with right knee soreness. The orthopedic staff for the team used imaging on such an injury, but early reports are that there is no structural damage to the knee itself. This encouraging news comes at a perfect time, as the 76ers are off to a surprising start with a 7-4 record.

Head coach Nick Nurse provided an update on Embiid’s condition, stating, “He just reported a little soreness in his right knee. He’s had some imaging on that this afternoon, and the doctors are here tonight to go over that with him.” The soreness has caused understandable alarm, given Embiid’s history with knee issues. Last season, he played just 19 games after suffering a re-aggravation of the injury in his left knee.

Even with the uncertain future surrounding Embiid’s health, there is positive news when it comes to his eventual return to 82-feet of hardwood. Nurse further clarified that there is “no expectation” for Embiid to miss long stretches of time from this most recent setback. Of course, the team’s medical staff will be keeping a close eye on him going forward.

Over the first few games of the season, Embiid has been nothing short of spectacular. He’s averaged 19.7 points in just 23.3 minutes per game over six contests! His ability to put up productive numbers in short spurts has helped propel the 76ers to the league’s best record. The team has already been in nine clutch-time games this season, the most of any NBA team. They’ve come out on top in six of those heart-stopping matches.

In good news for the Clippers, Paul George is improving in his recovery from knee surgery this offseason. George had a follow-up check-up recently and is reported to be at the “final stage” of his return-to-play protocol. Additional details about his recovery are anticipated later this week.

And as for the 76ers, they recently achieved a close victory against the Boston Celtics, ending the game at 102-100. The victory puts an exclamation point on their toughness and poise, especially in must-have situations and close game scenarios.
