On Monday, the Phoenix Suns announced that rookie guard Eric Green will be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks. He’s out due to a right hamstring strain. This recent hurdle marks the biggest test for the team. Green has been a vital cog ever since he came over from the Rockets to join the Suns.
Green originally hurt the hamstring during training camp before the start of the season. His situation grew more dire when he injured the same area further by engaging in basketball related activities during an “NBA Preseason” tour in China. Despite all the odds stacked against him, he positively influenced the game in such an incredible way. In his debut, he scored 29 points, breaking a franchise record for the most points by a Suns player in their first game since Charles Barkley in 1992.
The injury happened in Saturday’s road win over the Los Angeles Clippers. While Green’s willingness to suit up in that game showed his toughness, it actually resulted in a bigger setback. The Suns will now have to navigate the next several weeks without one of their key players, who had played all 82 games in both of the past two seasons.
Regardless, Green’s absence will necessitate some major adjustments within the Suns’ lineup. Coaches and teammates alike will need to step up to fill the void left by his scoring and playmaking abilities. The franchise is still optimistic that Green can come back healthy and be a major help when his recovery time is up.
