The NBA revealed their official 2025-26 season City Edition uniforms today. These designs are a wondrous mix of outside-the-box thinking with a respect for each team’s individual history. One of Boston’s designs to get the most attention is its “Gold Standard” threads. This daring decision represents a monumental break with the franchise’s longstanding emerald past. This season sees the Minnesota Timberwolves embracing a midnight black to gray gradient, inspired by the rugged landscapes of their state, while the Brooklyn Nets draw cultural inspiration from hip-hop, reflecting the borough’s rich diversity.
These customized uniforms do more than just show off team colors this year. They tell the unique stories of each region’s pride and history. Each of these designs highlights something unique to their communities. Those movements are expressed with every jersey, inspiring fans and players to promote the conversations that need to happen.
Boston Celtics Make History with Gold Standard Threads
The Boston Celtics are making a pretty daring move this season with their uniform experiment, as they’re set to wear “Gold Standard” unis. And for the first time in franchise history, these iconic skaters will do so in new uniforms. However, these jerseys won’t be their classic green color.

This state of the art design highlights a new look and feel for one of the league’s most celebrated franchises. The Celtics’ decision to adopt gold as their primary color for this edition aims to celebrate the team’s legacy while appealing to a new generation of fans.
This amendment reflects a larger trend in the league. That’s the thing — teams are really taking risks with their visual identities more than ever before. The Celtics are hoping for this new uniform to appeal to their veteran fans. On the other hand, they are trying to win over younger fans who are sensitive to clean, modern design.
Timberwolves and Nets Embrace Cultural Inspirations
The Minnesota Timberwolves finally break through with a killer midnight black to gray gradient alternate uniform for the 2025-26 season. This design, conceived by artist Eric W. Benson, takes cues from Minnesota’s fierce mountain terrain—a tribute to the land’s natural beauty and tenacity.
The Timberwolves were previously known for prominently featuring red in their red 2017-18 City Edition uniforms. Now, this new color palette is a very significant step in the direction of a more contemporary, modern look.
At the same time, the Brooklyn Nets have designed an original new pattern in honor of their homegrown hip-hop history. This design represents the vibrant cultural landscape that makes Brooklyn truly diverse and is inspired by the forward-thinking landscape of the Nets’ fans. Putting a focus on community and identity through fashion is more important than ever in today’s NBA market.
These designs showcase not only the aesthetic of each team’s past but their willingness to acknowledge their past and stay engaged in a changing sports landscape. Aside from the aesthetic appeal, each of these uniforms tells a story, connecting players and fans alike to their respective cities.
